Wyman, Miller and Small all DRIVEN by CHALLENGE !

Helen Wyman of Kona appears once again set an unrelenting pace in Iowa City, Iowa (U.S.) on the altered course for the second day of the 2012 Jingle Cross Rock.

Optum-Kelly Benefit Strategies teammates Amanda Miller and Carmen Small chased the European champion to no avail, conceding the win but taking second and third, respectively, crossing the line hand in hand.

“The slight differences they made to the hill ride-up this time played to my advantage,” Wyman said in a post-race interview with Cycling Dirt.

“A couple of bits are really steep, but once you can just sit down and pedal in a rhythm, that's what I'm good at. I'm naturally a hill climber, so for me it was just really good to put pressure on people and get a gap.”

“It was good when we had Jade (Wilcoxson), so we could close down on the power sections, and then Jade had a bobble coming off one of the sections,” Small told Cycling Dirt. “She went down, I went over her, so we kind of lost our momentum there, so Amanda and I tried to pull Helen back, but she's fast, it's hard.”

      What they said:

Wyman, post-race video interview with Cycling Dirt:

“It was fun. It was good. The slight differences they made to the hill ride-up this time played to my advantage. It was absolutely brilliant. The descent was super fun. It's great. Good course. Fun time! A couple of bits are really steep, but once you can just sit down and pedal in a rhythm, that's what I'm good at. I'm naturally a hill climber, so for me it was just really good to put pressure on people and get a gap. There's one part that isn't really off-camber, but it is really boggy and slow.”

Carmen Small, post-race with Cycling Dirt:

“It was good when we had Jade, so we could close down on the power sections, and then Jade had a bobble coming off one of the sections. She went down, I went over her, so we kind of lost our momentum there, so Amanda and I tried to pull Helen back, but she's fast, it's hard. I think we have a better fitness level for three days, in stead of two, just from doing stage races.”
