Canadian champion third against world’s top sprinters

On a historic day of racing in the heart of Paris, Canadian national champion Leah Kirchmann rose to the occasion for Optum Pro Cycling presented by Kelly Benefit Strategies, sprinting to third on the Champs-Elysées at La Course by Le Tour de France. Kirchmann, who captured a trio of Canadian national titles earlier this summer, sprinted alongside world champion Marianne Vos (Rabo-liv) and the race’s favorite to win, Kirsten Wild (Giant-Shimano), to finish third with centimeters separating the three riders at the line.

Kirchmann, who has continued to build her powerful late-race kick in 2014, stayed tactically sharp on the cobblestones of the final kilometers, winding onto the final straightaway on the Champs-Elysées in prime position.
