• Rider of Banco BIC/Carmim/Tavira keeps the blue jersey at the 2nd day of Volta ao Algarve


      In this second stage of the 40th Volta ao Algarve, Valter Pereira, rider of team Banco BIC/Carmim/Tavira, kept the blue jersey of the mountain classification.


      This was the longest journey, which totaled 196 kilometers between Lagoa and Monchique and that was won by the Polish Michal Kwiatkowski (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) who also took the lead of the race.


      The final kilometer were very hard with a climb to the finish and was offered to climbers the opportunity to shine. Rui Costa (Lampre-Merida) was the second at finish line with 6 seconds from the winner, followed by Alberto Contador (Saxo-Tinkoff), 2nd and 3rd places respectively.


      Team Banco BIC/Carmim/Tavira has placed again Valter Pereira in the day’s escape which earned him a score in the mountain of Aljezur, and again the blue jersey.


      Daniel Mestre was the best of Tavira Team, positioned in 44th place, 2 minutes and 13 seconds behind the winner. In general classification, Mestre is also the best positioned, in 52nd, 2 minutes and 23 seconds to the leader.


      Tomorrow, Friday, follows the third stage, a time trial with 13.6 kilometers between Vila do Bispo and Sagres.
