2013 IRONMAN World Championships – Kona, Hawaii.

Haley Chura (USA) led the swim, a string of favourites piling into T1 behind her including Jodie Swallow (GBR), Leanda Cave (GBR), Meredith Kessler (USA), Amanda Stevens (USA), Rachel Joyce (GBR).

Kessler pushed hard for much of the bike course, the pace eventually becoming too much for most.

Joyce, Swallow and Michelle Vesterby (DNK) manage to keep up.

Behind them, Carfrae was riding well to limit her losses against the strongest cyclists.

Kessler led the front quartet into T2, but Joyce (GBR) overtook Kessler at around four miles.

Meredith on full power mode that day, her bike time being (4:55.25), misses fastest bike split by only 0:00.75 !

Led at the start of the run and 2nd until the 16 mile mark of the marathon, had a hard time keeping up her astonishing pace and drops to finish in still a great 7th place.

Excellent result and her best IMWC so far !

After all she went through this year, it makes her result even more amazing, being so close to the top 5 in the world.
