Christine Vardaros is a professional cyclist since year 2000. Her top love of all cycling disciplines is cyclo-cross, although it wasn't her first. Her first taste of life on two wheels hit her while she lived in NYC. It came in the form of mountain biking. She took to it so well that within a few months of her first ride on the big-wheeled machine, she packed her desk on the Morgan Stanley trading floor and moved to San Francisco in search of living her dream as a pro racer. Within a year of her move, and with the help of her coach "Elmo" she upgraded to the pro ranks with Team Breezer.
But shortly afterwards, Christine discovered cyclo-cross by accident when she was invited to an unofficial cross race held by Team DFL. Within the first few pedalstrokes she was hooked. While she continued with the mountain biking, she fell more and more in love with her skinnier-wheeled model. Traveling priorities slowly shifted to the cross bike. She started to spend part of her winters in Belgium, the heartland of cross, to compete in major races against the best in the world.
In 2006, when she was offered a pro contract with the Belgium-based Lotto-Belisol road team she dropped the mountain bike and spent her summers on the road, while keeping cyclo-cross her top priority. It surely paid off for her as she has had some fine results over the years. She placed top ten in a couple of World Cups, won many cyclo-cross races to include some UCI-international events, represented USA a few times in the World Championships and even has her own supporters club in Belgium. She currently races for Team STEVENS. And for the record, in the eight years that Challenge has sponsored Christine, she has only suffered one flat tire. Needless to say, she is pleased with our relationship.
